On 11 November ProMusika led by Sarah Spiteri and featuring Lydia Caruana will give a concert at the Theatre of the Estates in Prague. This visit is another example of close collaboration between Manoel Theatre and Prague National Theatre.
The concert’s programme consists of 20th century music, including the works of Maltese composers – Carmelo Pace, Charles Camilleri, Joe Vella, Christopher Muscat and Alex Vella Gregory. Such collaborations will provide opportunities for local artists to perform abroad and showcase Maltese culture outside our shores.
Contacts between the Manoel Theatre and National Theatre in Prague were established on the initiative of Mr Tonio Casapinta, honorary consul of Malta to the Czech Republic. The collaboration agreement was signed in Prague in May 2006. Last year the National Theatre presented a ballet performance in Malta, with a selection of classical and contemporary pieces, received warmly by the Maltese audience. Collaboration with the Prague National Theatre will continue, with more Czech productions at the Manoel Theatre in the future, and more Manoel Theatre productions being performed in Prague.
The Narodni Divadlo, the Prague National Theatre administers three of the most important venues in Prague, which apart from the majestic National Theatre on the bank of the Vltava river, include the Estates Theatre, built in 1783 and in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had premiered Don Giovanni in 1787. The National Theatre has three artistic ensembles – for opera, drama and ballet and employs more than a thousand people, including artists, musicians, dancers, technicians and administrative staff.
This visit is being sponsored by Malta International Airport and Malta Tourism Authority.
