Malta Independent Friday, 2 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A walkathon from Manoel Island to St Julian’s organised recently by MT StyleClinic in aid of Ghabex, the Agenzija Appogg shelter for victims of violence, proved to be a huge success with over a hundred participants from all walks of life coming together for a good cause. Just under Lm2,000 were raised for Ghabex, which will be used for a much-needed kitchen and bedroom furniture amongst other requirements to make life at the shelter better. Ghabex is the emergency shelter which provides an immediate safe environment to women victims of domestic violence and their children, who require immediate protection.

Personalities attending the walk, which was supported by Vodafone Malta Foundation, included Valerie Vella, Claudette Pace, Josette Grech Hamilton, Miriam Dalli, Andrea Cassar, Moira Delia, Ivan Grech, Ira Losco, organisers Francesca Rizzo and Nirvana Azzopardi, and the CEO of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services Joe Gerada. Minister Francis Zammit Dimech and Labour MP Marie Louise Coleiro Preca met with the participants before the walk. Vodafone staff and a number of mayors and local councillors also participated in the walk.

Various other companies, including Farsons, Vogue quality printers and Alfie’s hair and beauty salon, supported this walk, making it possible for the organisers to donate all the money raised to Ghabex.
