The court of criminal appeal yesterday annulled a two-year jail term handed down to a man because the magistrates' court failed to fully explain why he was found guilty of the charges brought against him.
Ian Camilleri filed an appeal before Mr Justice David Scicluna on 13 June after the magistrates' court found him guilty of living off the earnings of prostitution and running a brothel and jailed him for two years.
However, in handing down his judgement, Mr Justice Scicluna noted that although Camilleri had been found guilty, the magistrates' court did not fully explain why.
As a result, Mr Justice Scicluna annulled the two-year jail term and said Mr Camilleri's case will be heard before him again.
Dr Jose Herrera and Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Camilleri.
