On 17 and 18 November the Riverside Theatre Company from South Africa will perform The Emperor’s New Clothes, a fascinating tale to enthuse and delight the young and young at heart.
The Emperor’s New Clothes, the well-known fairy-tale by Hans Christian Andersen, is being performed at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta on November 17, 18 by the Riverside Theatre Company from South Africa. It has been adapted for the stage by Leslie Ehrhardt.
The Emperor’s New Clothes is a fast-paced, wacky comedy that promises to have children of all ages clinging to their seats and rolling with laughter. It is heaps of fun, massively exciting, and carries a great educational message!
Thomas Figgis is desperate to marry his longtime sweetheart. He needs 20 gold coins to buy her a ring. The castle servant asks his employer for help but the conceited Emperor is too busy planning the arrival of Signore Brioletti, the world-famous tailor from Rome. Miss Gertrude, the Head-Housekeeper, plots a cunning plan. Thomas will disguise himself as Signore Brioletti, in a matter of minutes learn Italiacases (the language they speak in Rome of course) and bamboozle the Emperor into paying them a lot more than 20 gold coins! The only problem is, the Emperor finds out…
