Malta Independent Monday, 5 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The extension to the Ta’ Qali regional park was opened last Saturday night, and this was followed up by a family day held yesterday.

In his opening address, Rural Affairs and Environment Minister George Pullicino said that the park was opened on 26 September 1990, and in a matter of a few years grew to cover nearly 40,000 square metres. It is today used as an oasis of tranquility for hundreds of families.

The work on the extension of the park cost the government Lm250,000, and was undertaken by the Parks, Afforestation and Restoration division of the ministry.

The first phase consisted of embellishment and cleaning, building of rubble walls and tree-planting. The second phase included the extension of the picnic area, the installation of six water fountains and further landscaping.

The two parking areas were also upgraded, and the distance between the roads and the recreational area has increased, Mr Pullicino said.
