Malta Independent Monday, 5 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Methodian’s Help Fund, a voluntary fund at Methode Electronics Malta Ltd., has again organised an annual sports day for persons with a disability who attend the day centres of Agenzija SAPPORT. This annual event has been taking place for the past seven years and forms part of the integration programme for persons with a disability.

Around 280 clients of the day centres attended the event at the Ta’ Qali basketball complex, during which several sports and fun activities were held with the participation of the day centres and the Police Force Band. Various sports activities, dances and other entertainment were co-ordinated by staff members of the day centres. Service users of the day centres participated in these various activities and initiatives so as to facilitate interaction between them.

Joe Gerada, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services thanked the management and staff of Methode who for the last years exercised corporate responsibility in a most meaningful and innovative manner.

He said that this Fun Day was both a day that brought together many individuals with disabilities to spend and enjoy the day together but also to send out a message to all society that people with disability are able to contribute to society and the sooner we discover this fact, the richer our towns and villages will become.

For further information about SAPPORT and its services, the public is invited to log on to www.sapport.gov.mt or the website of the Ministry for Family and Social Solidarity, www.mfss.gov.mt. Agenzija SAPPORT forms part of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.
