‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ At Manoel Theatre

Malta Independent Saturday, 10 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

On 17 and 18 November The Riverside Theatre Company from South Africa will perform The Emperor’s New Clothes at the Manoel Theatre.

The Emperor’s New Clothes is a fast-paced, wacky comedy that promises to have children of all ages clinging to their seats and rolling in the aisles with laughter. It’s heaps of fun, massively exciting, and carries a great educational message too!

Thomas Figgis is desperate to marry his longtime sweetheart. He needs twenty gold coins to buy her a ring. The castle servant asks his employer for help but the conceited Emperor is too busy planning the arrival of Signore Brioletti, the world-famous tailor from Rome.

Miss Gertrude, the Head-Housekeeper plots a cunning plan. Thomas will disguise himself as Signore Brioletti, in a matter of minutes learn Italiacases (the language they speak in Rome of course) and bamboozle the Emperor into paying them a lot more than twenty gold coins! Only problem is, the Emperor finds out…

Written and directed by Leslie Ehrhardt, this sixty minute farce is presented with a super-sized set, digitally mastered sound and hoards and hoards and even more hoards of costumes!

Performance on Saturday is at 7pm and on Sunday, at 4pm and 6pm.

Tickets at Lm6, Lm4, Family Package (2 adults & 2 children) at Lm 15.
