Heritage Malta To light up the façade of the National Museum of Archaeology for World Diabetes Day

Malta Independent Tuesday, 13 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Heritage Malta will be joining the rest of the world in commemorating the World Diabetes Day tomorrow.

To mark this day, the agency will be lighting up the façade of the National Museum of Archaeology in Republic Street, Valletta in blue.

The museum will be one of many landmark monuments across the world to be lit up in blue as a beacon of hope for the more than 246 million people affected by diabetes worldwide.

More than 65 countries are participating in the campaign which is being led by the International Diabetes Federation. Blue was specifically chosen as it is the colour of the federation’s logo.

The façade of the museum will be specifically lit up for the occasion today and tomorrow.

The date 14 November has been earmarked by the United Nations as World Diabetes Day as it marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1921.
