New Football ground inaugurated at Marsaxlokk

Marsaxlokk primary school and the Marsaxlokk football nursery can now make good use of a ground with artificial turf, which was inaugurated yesterday morning by Education, Minister Louis Galea.

The minister said that other embellishment works in Marsaxlokk primary school are in progress, not only for the benefit of the students but for the community in general.

Dr Galea announced that excavation and tile-laying work for the Marsaxlokk primary school hall had started these last few weeks.

The recently completed ground was one of a few donated by UEFA to the Malta Football Association (MFA), to boost the popularity of playing football and other sport even further.

Just like Marsaxlokk, a number of organisations and associations applied for such pitches and a number of these were thus built in government primary or secondary schools for the use of the community as well. This 5-a-side ground was completed with the help of the Marsaxlokk local council.

The government is in talks with the Marsaxlokk Football Club so that school students could use the facility during the day. The nursery could make use of it after school hours.

Dr Galea thanked the MFA, the local councils, and the Marsaxlokk Football Association for the work carried out in order that Marsaxlokk could also benefit from the donations provided by UEFA to Malta.

The minister said that the government is committed to schools around Malta and Gozo, and said that the Marsaxlokk primary school was also to benefit from better accessibility such as the construction of lifts, ramps and the change of sanitary facilities.
