Both the first (1992 onwards) and second (2000 onwards) generations of the Subaru Impreza have received unprecedented support from customers all over the world who enjoy an active car lifestyle, due to the Impreza’s combination of excellent driving performance, thanks to its Symmetrical AWD, and overall high level of functionality.
This new third generation of Impreza has been developed under the concept of “Sports Casual” with the goal of providing a car that offers Subaru’s traditional handling and road-holding performance to a wider range of customers, and has been designed to attract customers who seek a class-exceeding quality of styling, functionality, handling and ride comfort in the compact cars segment.
Three key enhancements in the New Impreza
In order to realise this product concept, there were three key areas of enhancement in development: styling, functionality and quality ride. The development process was also aimed at creating a car that remains true to the Subaru brand by further evolving the safe and secure driving experience that defines Impreza, while at the same time achieving a level of quality that provides class-exceeding comfort and
superior feel.
• In styling, a sporty hatch-back style was incorporated to express the Impreza’s nimble performance so that it creates the desire to drive anywhere just to feel the exuberant freedom experienced behind the wheel of the Impreza.
• In functionality, a stress-free driving experience was carefully considered and overall packaging was refined to achieve ample space and better visibility, utility and accessibility (ingress and egress). This user-friendly function provides not only the driver but also the passengers with a special environment in which they feel completely at ease, no matter the driving conditions or
location.
• In quality ride, the traditional Subaru’s ride perform-ance was totally polished so that customers can immediately feel a class-exceeding quality in ride performance. To achieve this, a new chassis design concept named “Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept” or “Subaru DC3” was incorporated for the design of a new platform, including a more responsive steering system and a new rear suspension system. On top of this, many other changes that enhance the quality ride have been made – for example, a larger capacity air conditioner, a higher quality audio system and newly designed seats for greater comfort. A higher standard in safety features can also be included in this area.
