Children Participate in WasteServ music video about waste separation

Malta Independent Thursday, 29 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Eighty-three children, between the ages of four and 12 years, have actively participated in the recording of a music video about waste separation. Recording was done in Xghajra on Sunday afternoon, which was also World’s Children Day, and will continue this weekend.

The song, called Waste Matters, was produced by WasteServ in collaboration with young singer Thea Saliba. The main message of this song places an emphasis on waste separation and its impact on the environment. Both the lyrics and the music were written by Thea Saliba, and was recorded both in English and in Maltese.

The message of the song is simple – we all need to contribute towards keeping the world clean using waste facilities such as the bring-in sites which are at our disposal. The lyrics of the song even go on to explain how these sites should be used: using black bins for metal, plastic for blue, brown for glass and the white bins for paper. Last but not least, the song encourages its listeners to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Armed with this song, WasteServ has organised a series of school visits over the past scholastic year where Thea performed the song in a bid to continue to raise awareness on waste issues and to encourage waste separation.

WasteServ would like to thank Swieqi and Xghajra Local Councils, who have helped for the song and its music video to be made possible. On completion, this video will be used as an educational tool in schools as well as be aired on television.
