Christmas Concert at the Valletta Waterfront

Malta Independent Sunday, 2 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Barocco Cultural Events is organising a Christmas Concert at the Sagrestia Vault, The Valletta Waterfront on Wednesday 12 December. The concert called Holy City is going to be a fund-raising performance in aid of a child suffering from cerebral palsy.

This year’s funds will go for a boy called KM, a wheelchair-bound 12-year-old boy, who despite his multiple disabilities manages to communicate through eye contact. This boy has a very alert mind and a wonderful memory. The aim of this fund-raising performance is to assist his family to buy specialised computer software, which will enable him to communicate with the people around him. The St Paul’s Missionary College, the school which the boy attends, has already organised its annual marathon in aid of the KM fund.

Holy City is going to be a concert to spark off our Christmas spirit – its varied programme is imbued with arias and selected works associated with the Christmas season. The arias O Holy night, Holy City Mascagni’s Ave Maria, Gesu’ Bambino and Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring will intertwine with Bach’s Intermezzo from his Oratorio and Emmanuel Galea’s Sinfonia Pastorale on flute and piano. Handel’s Sonata in C (larghetto-allegro-larghetto-allegro-gavotte) and some harp pieces by Anne Marie Camilleri Podesta’ such as Pachelbel La Source, Albeniz Malaguena and Etude de Concert by Godefroid will complement the performance.

The performers are well known in the local music scene. These are soprano Marita Bezzina, harpist Anne Marie Camilleri Podestà, flutist Silvio Zammit and Ramona Zammit Formosa on the piano.

Holy City will start at 8pm on Wednesday, 12 December. The audience will be offered a free glass of wine. Entrance to the Sagrestia Vault is through the Chapel of Tal-Harba at the Valletta Waterfront. Entrance by donation of Lm5/EUR11.65.
