With its policy of presenting live jazz from Maltese artists, SJI’s Smooth Jazz Inc. is proud to present Eve Daley & Godwin Lucas.

Godwin Lucas comes from a well-known musical family and started playing piano at the age of seven. At sixteen he was playing keyboards daily in local nightclubs and hotels. By 1984 with the resident band at the Selmun Palace he met Victor Fenech who encouraged him to take part in festivals. The International Festival for Maltese Song earned him the prize for the “most promising talent”. Other awards followed with songs from Victor Fenech and a win with Vizjoni at the 1987 Independence Day Festival, culminating with the song Ghanja Lil Ibni which formed the title of his first CD in 1996.

After playing in London and Canada’s leading hotels, Eve Daly invited him to perform with her at the Westin Dragonara. The successful partnership prompted a CD, An Evening with Eve Daly & Godwin Lucas, which includes songs from both their repertoires.

Eve Daly started her career in 1967 after her musical talents were discovered by Charles Thake who attended an operetta at her school, St Monica. This led to numerous TV and radio programmes including Dawra Durella by Philip Farrugia Randon. Her singing career has been mostly in top hotels in Malta, the UK, Tunisia and Australia. She has not participated in Maltese festivals as she inherited British nationality from her father. However having been born and brought up in Malta she now holds dual citizenship so who knows?

Performing together at the Westin Dragonara Eve and Godwin realised how well their voices blended and many duets included in their programme are on their CD.

They are a truly professional duo also appearing each Saturday on TVM. Both have real love and respect for jazz, which shows in their polished performances at Smooth Jazz Inc. where they are firm customer favourites. Their wide and varied programme offers something for all tastes.

At SJI’S Eve and Godwin have played with Harry Eddleston each Thursday for the past year. Additionally they appear as a duo on Wednesday night allowing customers a double dose of their excellent professional style. Godwin is busy planning a major concert next year to celebrate his birthday and honouring many of Malta’s most popular musicians.

SJI’S Smooth Jazz Inc. is in Church Street Paceville with live music every night from 9pm until midnight. For further details please call Peter Thurston on 7902 0646.
