A 16-year-old boy was placed under probation after pleading guilty to a number of charges, including stealing a Mercedes Benz and slightly injuring two police officers on Monday morning in Hamrun and Marsa.

On Christmas Day, the boy, whose name cannot be published since he is a minor, pleaded guilty before magistrate Lawrence Quintano to stealing vehicle registration plates and a road licence, driving the Mercedes without a driving licence, dangerous driving and using a false road licence.

He also pleaded admitted to breaching the peace, assaulting, insulting and trying to grievously injure two policemen, not obeying police orders and damaging a police uniform.

He was jailed for two years suspended for three years and placed under probation for two years.

In addition, he was fined Lm35, ordered to immediately pay for the damage on the police uniform and suspended for six months from obtaining his driving licence from when he is eligible to obtain one.A Zabbar man on Christmas Day was jailed for a month after he pleaded guilty to breaching bail conditions between Saturday and Monday.

Melvin Pace, 21, was immediately placed under arrest and magistrate Lawrence Quintano ordered the revocation of the bail he was granted in May last year.
