The voluntary cultural organisation Inizjamed has donated e233 (Lm100) to the fund set up at the University of Malta by the family of Dr Gorg Mifsud-Chircop to hold lectures on Maltese Folklore.
Inizjamed has made this donation in appeciation of Dr Mifsud-Chircop’s lifetime contribution to the study and appreciation of Maltese culture, especially in its Mediterranean context. The organisation of these lectures on Maltese Folklore will help established scholars to build on research done by Dr Mifsud-Chircop and others, and it will also encourage other scholars to carry out research in this area where so much still needs to be done.
These studies not only allow us to understand the different aspects of our culture but also to appreciate better the cultures in our region. This is in line with Inizjamed’s initiatives in the field of intercultural dialogue that have prompted the government to appoint Inizjamed (and the National Orchestra) as Maltese ambassadors of intercultural dialogue for 2008.
Inizjamed would like to encourage individuals and organisations to donate to this fund by sending cheques to: Fond ghat-Tahdita Gorg Mifsud-Chircop, L-Ufficcju tal-Finanzi, L-Università ta' Malta.
