Two youths from St Paul’s Bay yesterday pleaded guilty to attempting to steal two cars on the night of 4 January from Marsascala.

Before magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona, Matthew Luke Demicoli, 22, and a 15-year-old boy, pleaded guilty to trying to steal the two cars and causing more than e1,164.69 (Lm500) in damages to both cars.

The minor alone was charged with stealing a car stereo from one of the cars, handling stolen property, being in possession of a penknife and breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence handed by the Juvenile Court.

He was placed under probation for three years while Demicoli was jailed for nine months suspended for two years.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted while Dr Anthony Cutajar appeared for Demicoli and lawyers Jose Herrera and Veronique Dalli were defence counsel to the minor.
