The St Catherine Band Club of Zurrieq has deplored scenes shown during the Bondi Plus programme of 21 January showing the dead body of one of two fireworks factory explosion victims.

The explosion occurred last 15 November, killing the two club members, Nazzareno Barbara and Alfred Cassar. Calling for an apology from Mr Bondi, the club said the programme presenter had failed in the respect due to Mr Barbara, his family and friends.

It said Mr Barbara’s family had not been allowed to see the body after the explosion, and the scenes shown during the programme had hurt them badly. Where did journalistic ethics begin, and where did they end, the club wondered. It also asked if sensationalism was more important than sentiment. If a journalist expected other people’s respect, he should himself respect others, it added.
