Guests and staff at the Mayflower Hotel on Triq l-Imhar in Qawra were safely evacuated on Friday evening following a basement laundry room fire.

The Civil Protection Department said on its Facebook page dispatched 12 firefighters alongside police and emergency services to tackle the blaze, which started one storey below street level.

Although no injuries occurred, the three-star hotel underwent a full precautionary evacuation because of heavy smoke spreading through the building.

Firefighters conducted thorough room-by-room checks, performed ventilation procedures, and successfully brought the situation under control.
