A 28-year-old man was granted bail against a personal guarantee of e1,500 after pleading not guilty to trying to run over his wife and a police officer with his car on Tuesday.
The court, presided over by magistrate Giovanni Grixti, heard how Carlo Stivala, from Msida, had gone to his wife’s house in Zabbar in order to pick up their son in compliance to a court decision.
As soon as he knocked at the woman’s door, a police officer stepped out of the house and presented him with a summons. The man returned the summons and tried to leave the place.
Mr Stivala was also charged with attempting to grievously injure his wife and the officer, reckless driving, disobeying police orders and driving at dangerous speed.
Senior Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted while lawyers Joseph Giglio and Stephen Tonna Lowell assisted the accused.
