A Frenchwoman who is currently serving a 15-month jail sentence in Malta will be extradited to Germany where she is wanted in connection to fraud-related crimes.

Madeh Benjaoui, 22, is serving jail time in Malta after she had pleaded guilty in November to defrauding a number of people by withdrawing money from local banks using counterfeit credit or debit cards. Two Romanians were also jailed in connection with the case.

German authorities believe that Benjaoui is involved with other people in renting out cars in Germany and selling them abroad after driving them out of the country.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna ruled that the woman could be extradited in spite of her medical conditions. He stated that unlike committing political crimes or fear of breach of personal liberties; medical conditions do not bar a person from being extradited.

The magistrate ruled that the woman could be surrendered for extradition after she had served her jail term in Malta.
