Malta Independent Saturday, 2 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A 28-year-old Kalkara man was arraigned in court yesterday, charged in front of Magistrate Paul Coppini with theft from a Victoria shop.

The shop lay in Fortunato Mizzi Street where cash amounting to under e3,000 was stolen on Thursday. Police investigations around Gozo led them to a Gozo Channel ferry where a suspect, Rodney Vella, was apprehended and was identified as the alleged thief.

Vella was freed provisionally and bound to report every day at Cospicua police station, to confine himself to his home between 10pm and 7am, not to go to Gozo except for court sittings, and to make a personal guarantee of e2,000.

Supt Antonello Grech conducted the prosecution.
