As part of their commitment to enhance the environment and as a sign of appreciation for the cooperation extended by three particular Local Councils, Bonnici Brothers Limited has donated 300 olive trees to the Local Councils of Xghajra, Zabbar and Kalkara. In the coming days, the trees will be planted in these localities.

Bonnici Brothers Limited, a leading contractor backed with many years of experience in the local construction industry and civil engineering projects, has been entrusted by SmartCity Malta with the demolition of Ricasoli, Kalkara industrial area.

Xghajra, Zabbar and the Kalkara Local Councils who benefited from this scheme thanked Bonnici Brothers Limited for sponsoring and supporting such campaigns.

Emanuel Bonnici, Director of Bonnici Group, presented the trees to Anthony Valvo, Xghajra mayor; Clyde Caruana, Zabbar mayor; and Michael Cohen, Kalkara mayor; in the presence of SmartCity Malta Chief Operating Officer, Chris Cole.

Mr Bonnici said: “Through this donation, Bonnici Brothers Limited would like to contribute towards the environmental embellishment of the three neighbouring localities of SmartCity Malta project and, at the same time, thank these Councils for their collaboration over the past months. I encourage other contractors involved in projects around Malta to follow this initiative.”

Mr Cole said that progress is being continuously registered by SmartCity Malta and that the adjoining localities stand to gain from this project.

SmartCity Malta, the knowledge based township, is a joint venture between SmartCity based in Dubai and the Government of Malta. Their mutual aim is that SmartCity Malta is recognised as the predominant ICT and media business-park in the Mediterranean region which seeks to assist in the creation of knowledge-based clusters within self-sustained townships. Based on the successful model of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, SmartCity Malta will be an important hub in the Mediterranean.
