SmartCity, a global network of self-sustained townships for knowledge-based industries, has taken part in the Business Park 2008 Exhibition in New Delhi, India. On its stand, SmartCity promoted SmartCity Malta, an investment outlay equivalent to $300 million. SmartCity Malta is the largest direct foreign investment in the ICT and media sectors in Malta and is expected to generate 5,600 jobs and create a total office space of 103,000 square metres.

SmartCity is a joint venture company promoted by Dubai Holding members, TECOM Investments and SAMA Dubai, and developed from the successful model of Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village. These three entities have been exceptionally successful in attracting investment from some of the largest companies in the ICT, media and education sectors. SmartCity currently has a presence in Dubai, Malta and Kochi, and more are to come.

The Business Park 2008 Exhibition is one of a kind, as it is the only trade show for commercial properties in India. The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the World Federation of Free Zones which showcases the sellers – promoters of IT parks, SEZs, free zones, retail malls and the buyers – promoters of software and bio-technology companies, industrialists, facility managers, technocrats, exporters, entrepreneurs, etc. SmartCity’s participation in the exhibition is one of the initiatives it has taken towards expanding business opportunities in India.
