Davinia Galea has recently been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.
Ms Galea graduated from the University of Malta with a B.A. in Music and History of Art. As a concert pianist, she has performed in Malta and abroad, and for the past twelve years she has also acted as producer and artistic director of several major cultural events. She was a regular performer with the Medit Chamber Players, who showcase Maltese culture through music in Malta and other countries; their concerts have taken the group to Brussels, London, Paris and Tunis. Ms.Galea has also performed in Washington, Toronto, Warsaw, Cork, Berlin, Leipzig and Wiesbaden.
She has produced major cultural events including the Bir Miftuh Music Festival, Windows on Music, the operas ‘Maltese Cross’, ‘Candide’ and ‘Elisabeth; or to be a Mann’ and has been the Artistic Director and Producer of the Malta Summer Arts Festival for the past two years. Most recently she was responsible for the logistics involved in the loan of Caravaggio’s ‘Portrait of a Knight’ from Palazzo Pitti in Florence to St. John’s Co-Cathedral as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of Caravaggio’s stay in Malta.
