Defending the University students’ behaviour at the political leaders’ debate at the University on Monday, the Nationalist Party said the Labour party was not only attacking the students but also expecting that somebody should have stopped them, “as if they were children”.

Some University students barracked the leaders of the political parties, but not the prime minister, on Monday, preventing them from being heard. Labour’s attacks, the PN said, were reminding people of similar attacks in the past.

The PN said the students’ reaction was to Dr Sant’s own questions to them, when he asked them who was being obstinate, and they said he was, and whether they wanted change, to which they replied no. They also disagreed that Dr Sant would not admit he had been wrong about Europe, and that he did not give a reply as to whether he would touch their stipends.

The MLP, the PN said, should realise why Dr Sant had done badly in the debate, not attack the students and expect them to be controlled like children.
