As part of its ongoing initiative to help local councils realise small-scale projects and programmes in the local community, HSBC Malta assisted the Mellieha local council to buy trees and plants for a new garden at Manikata, called Gnien iz-Zernieq. Including a playing field and picnic area, this latest initiative by the local council is situated directly opposite the Manikata Church. Here, both Manikata residents, Maltese and tourists can enjoy breath-taking views and benefit from the cooperation between Mellieha Local Council and HSBC.

“HSBC believes that Local Councils often bring significant improvements to the lives of people in each respective local community. Through its corporate social responsibility programme, HSBC took the initiative and allocated a fund to assist local councils,” said Anthony Buttigieg, HSBC Area director North. “HSBC Malta is giving every local council in Malta and Gozo a contribution for community initiatives for the environment, children, education or heritage in their area.”

Mayor John Buttigieg, said: “The local council has transformed a neglected piece of land in this picturesque area – Gnien iz-Zernieq – to be enjoyed by the present and future generations.

This garden also highlights the natural beauty of the Maltese Islands, something which may be taken for granted.”
