A 24-year-old man pleaded not guilty yesterday to threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife at her home in Cospicua on Sunday afternoon.

Rennie Gauci, from Cospicua, was also charged with slightly injuring a police officer, threatening, resisting, disobeying and challenging various policemen to a fight.

Before Magistrate Doreen Clarke, Gauci was also charged with causing damage for less than e116.47 (Lm50) to a police uniform and to the front door of the woman’s house as well as threatening a neighbour and throwing stones at his window.

The man pleaded not guilty also to breaching the peace, using obscene language in public, illegally carrying a sharp and pointed object, causing fear to people that violence would be used against them and relapsing.

Magistrate Clarke remanded him in custody and recommended that a male probation officer be appointed in order to follow his case.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted while Dr Owen Bonnici appeared for the accused.
