For the second consecutive month Malta International Airport has registered an increase in passenger movements.
During the month of February of this leap year an 18 per cent increase was in fact registered. This results in an average increase of 20.5 per cent in the first two months of 2008 when compared to the corresponding period last year.
The total passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in February 2008 were of 155,675, an increase of 23,888 when compared to February 2007. Likewise, both the aircraft movements and cargo and mail figures registered an increase of 11.8 per cent and 24.7 per cent respectively.
Passenger traffic from the main UK market remained stable with an increase of 3.6 per cent.
However, MIA gained significant increases by up to 44.8 per cent on the German market, almost 30 per cent from the UAE and 19.8 per cent on the Italian market.
The busiest days in February 2008 were the 23rd in terms of passengers with 7210 movements whilst on the 2nd day of the month MIA handled the highest number of aircraft in one day totalling 65.
