Court: Man Pleads not guilty to running over policeman

A 32-year-old man was yesterday placed under house arrest after he pleaded not guilty to running a policeman over and slightly injuring him on Wednesday at Pjazza San Luqa, Pietà.

Ludwig Bugeja, from Paola, pleaded not guilty also to threatening the policeman and his colleague, disobeying their orders and dangerously driving a car in their direction.

Before Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, the man pleaded not guilty also to not being covered by a motor insurance policy and relapsing.

He was placed under house arrest on a personal guarantee of e7,000.

Police Inspector Ramon Mercieca prosecuted while Dr Stephen Tonna Lowell appeared for the accused.
