Victor Carachi has taken over as president of the General Workers’ Union as from yesterday, after his predecessor Salv Sammut retired. Mr Carachi had been appointed designate president in October. He started his work at the GWU in 1995 as a shop steward at the Mid-Med Bank. He later served as president of the HSBC Committee and vice-president and member of the Services and Media sector.
