The police yesterday were called to the area below the tower – known as Taht it-Torri – in Sliema, after the dead body of a man was noticed on the shore.

After officially confirming that a man had been found dead, the police initially called for help from the public, requesting any information that would help to identify him.

They later issued another statement, saying that they had identified the victim as being a 66 year old man from St Julians

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi has appointed various experts to help him in his inquiry.

The police are investigating.
