Malta Independent Saturday, 22 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Following the fireworks explosion that claimed the lives of two people, the Naxxar local council thanked all those who participated in the enormous rescue operation and announced that it is opening a common fund to help the victims’ families.

In a statement, the Naxxar local council expressed its solidarity with the victims’ families and those who suffered damages after the tragedy.

The council thanked all those who participated in the rescue operation especially the Police Force, the army, the Explosive Ordinance Disposal, the Civil Protection Department, doctors, paramedics and all the volunteers for their professionalism and the long hours they put in even when their lives were at stake.

The council also thanked Agenzija Appogg, the Housing Authority and other individuals who offered the Naxxar local council their help to provide housing for the residents who were affected by the explosion.

In its thanks, the Naxxar local council did not forget the great generosity and various initiatives taken up by individuals to collect money for the victims’ families.

However, it said that the council wishes to open a common fund, instead of several separate ones, to ensure that all those who were affected by the explosion will make use of the money donated.

As a result, it opened two bank accounts – one in HSBC and another in BOV and called on those who have already collected money to deposit it in these accounts.

All those who wish to make a donation can transfer money on the following accounts: BOV – 400-1706544-1 and HSBC – 059-028290-001.
