The Armed Forces of Malta were called in to Ħamrun after a suspicious package was found, prompting a security operation on Friday afternoon.
Police confirmed that a package had been reported at 12.30.
The AFM's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team went on site and carried out a bomb disposal procedure as a precaution.
The devide was exploded in a controlled way on site.
