Barely a month after being named, United Arab Shipping Company’s latest new-building the m.v. HATTA called Malta Freeport on its maiden voyage to carry out transhipment operations at Malta Freeport, on Thursday, from where it continued on its schedule to the ports of Rotterdam, Thamesport, Hamburg and Antwerp in Northern Europe.

The m.v. HATTA was built in Ulsan – South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. as Hull No. 1833, and has been delivered on time to UASC on the 19 February, 2008. She is the second of eight new A7 generation containerships and as a high speed vessel, is equipped with a fuel efficient engine that is capable of delivering a service speed of 25.5 knots. The m.v. HATTA has a capacity of 6921 TEU spread over eight cargo holds and with a length overall of 306.1 metres, displaces a gross tonnage of 75,579 tonnes.

UASC owns and operates a fleet of 33 ships all of which are mantained to the highest industry standards and classified as Lloyds X100A1X. They provide a major shipping link on trade routes between the Middle East and the rest of the world. Their services operate on East and West bound schedules and cover the Middle East, Asia, North Europe, USA East Coast, Indian Sub-Continent, Mediterranean and the Black sea.

They are currently using the transhipment facilities at Malta Freeport and are represented locally by Valletta Freight Services Ltd.
