Brown Brothers, one of Australia’s most popular wineries and represented in Malta by Master Group are currently on a European tour promoting what is considered to be one of the widest selection of wines from Australia.
Andrew Harris, wine maker of Brown Brothers in fact visited Malta between 22-23 April for a number of meetings and events organised by Master Group for members of the trade, business partners, restaurateurs and the media to learn more about this popular Australian wine.
The main event during this promotional tour in Malta consisted of a Flavour Association Workshop, hosted at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence in Naxxar. Besides an opportunity to meet in an informal environment, the event turned out to be an exciting opportunity to further explore this renowned Australian brand through an interesting presentation by Mr Harris. The workshop explored a number of Flavour Compounds and aromas and discussed how a simple bridge can be made between food and wine by incorporating the flavours naturally present in wines into dishes.
The workshop has been developed by Brown Brothers after years of research to determine the links between food and wine. This study has found that a number of Flavour Compounds and aromas are present in both grape varieties and in foodstuffs.
Welcoming Mr Harris and Penny Fear, Brown Brothers representative responsible for Malta, at the opening of the event, Louie Camilleri, General Manager of Master Group said “Master Group and Brown Brothers share the same core principles in that we are both family-owned companies who strive to communicate to our consumers our passion and commitment in every bottle we produce. Wine making is an art and this is how we would like to portray it.”
Addressing guests at the start of the event Mr Harris described how Brown Brothers is renowned for its longstanding passion for matching wine and food. “In 1994 in fact, the Milawa Epicurean Centre was established to provide visitors to Milawa with the opportunity to fully experience the flavours and individual characteristics of the wines that have earned Brown Brothers the reputation for being ‘Australia’s leading varietal winemakers’. Here every dish is created to balance and blend with the flavours and textures of the wine and its ‘weight in the mouth’.”
Whereas dishes are prepared with a contemporary Asian or Mediterranean accent, each wine is carefully matched with each dish, so that the flavours of the food and wine are enhanced. “It is this experience that we are now proudly bringing to Malta thanks to an exciting collaboration between Brown Brothers and Master Group,” said Mr Harris.
Brown Brothers is also renowned for its Kindergarten Winery, a mini-winery devoted to the research and development of new winemaking practices and working with new grape varieties.
The presentation was followed by an informal BBQ where Brown Brothers wines flowed among the guests in a tranquil environment.
