The MADC presents perhaps the most dramatic and chilling play by William Shakespeare – Macbeth, directed by acclaimed Australian director Geoffrey Borny at Fort St Elmo, Valletta from 5 - 9 July.
Formerly reader and convenor of Drama Studies at the Australian National University, Dr Borny is now a visiting fellow and member of the Emeritus Faculty of the ANU. He has also had vast experience as an award-winning actor and director. He has previously directed Hamlet, Othello, Twelfth Night and Julius Caesar. This will be his first time tackling Macbeth - a tale about how a seed of temptation can set a righteous man down a treacherous path of lies and murder to obtain something he thought would bring him happiness… power.
The stellar cast includes Paul Portelli as Macbeth, Charlotte Grech as Lady Macbeth, Alan Paris as Macduff, Paula Fleri-Soler as Lady Macduff, Katherine Brown, Faye Paris and Maxine Calleja Urry as the Witches, Jean Pierre Agius as Banquo, Ralph Mangion as Lennox, Colin Willis as Ross and Martin Azzopardi as Duncan. The performance includes Renzo Spiteri on percussion. All performances start at 9pm.
Tickets at e15 may be purchased from St James Cavalier, tel. no: 2122-3200 and email: [email protected]. There will also be a special preview performance for secondary students on 3 July at a discounted price of e10.
