Hamrun Spartans FC have taken advantage of the break from football as an opportunity to upgrade its facilities at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

A FIFA 2 Star-approved artificial turf pitch is being laid, a new floodlighting system is being installed and the area next to the scoreboard is being embellished. These improvements will be of great benefit to the club and its nursery. It will also benefit Maltese football in general as football is expected to be played uninterruptedly even during the period when Ta’ Qali and Hibs Ground are being re-seeded in autumn.

The improvements are partly financed by the UEFA through MFA, government, private investors and the football club itself. A number of volunteers are also working on the embellishments.

As from next season, the nursery will be entitled for a number of hours per day to make use of the main pitch. The nursery would therefore be able to boast that it is offering the best facilities on the islands as its players would be training on a pitch where top-level football is being played. It is to be noted that the five-a-side pitch, exclusively used by the nursery, has also been re-surfaced with newly-laid artificial turf.

The new pitch is expected to be laid by the end of July and its inauguration is expected to be in early August.
