The award-winning spa of the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz in Gozo has added three new treatments to its vast therapy programme, namely shiatsu, aromatherapy and reflexology massages. Carried out by fully qualified therapists, each of these treatments possesses certain healing and soothing properties in the treatment of various ailments. However, suffering from a disorder is certainly not a prerequisite for benefitting from their deeply relaxing properties!
Shiatsu
The name of this massage technique has Japanese origins and translates to “finger pressure”. It is carried out by applying pressure using various parts not only of the masseur’s arms and hands, but even knees and feet. Shiatsu is remarkably relaxing and helps to alleviate stress-induced symptoms, while stimulating the circulation as well as hormonal and lymphatic systems.
Aromatherapy
Essential oils are at the basis of this gentle massage type. Aroma therapy is effective at soothing symptoms and strengthening the body’s natural resistance to illness. It has strong de-stressing effects and is useful for the improvement of a wide variety of ailments.
Reflexology
This is another gentle massaging therapy, which is based on a system that maps feet and hands in correlation to all parts of the body. The therapist influences organs by applying pressure to points on the feet or hands. Relief of symptoms of migraine, sinus and digestive problems as well as tension and stress are major benefits of reflexology.
