Real Estate Sector expresses concern on closure of Copenhagen embassy

Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

The Federation of Estate Agents was sad to learn of the decision by the authorities to close Malta’s only diplomatic presence in Scandinavia, ie. its embassy in Copenhagen.

This decision will have great repercussions on prospective buyers of property in Malta who hail from this region – which is one of the most affluent of the European Union, the agents said in a statement.

As things stand, these prospective buyers will now have to travel to the nearest Embassy, ie. in Warsaw, Poland to apply for residents’ permits as well as for interviews related with the same process, and thus could prove to have a negative effect on efforts by Malta’s Real Estate sector to attract foreigners from this region to invest in Malta.

The FEA urges government to reconsider this decision in light of the devastating effect this could have on the local property market.
