Ariel Turns to 30°C and helps Malta save energy

Malta Independent Monday, 22 September 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

In September, Ariel is giving away for free energy-saving bulbs with its products, in an effort to step up its educational campaign “Save Energy by Doing a Good Turn”. This initiative means that thanks to this offer, Malta will save up to approximately 7,000,000 kwh over six years (the life of the energy-saving bulb). Translated into energy bill savings, consumers will have saved no less than e653,000 collectively.

After having launched a consumer educational campaign in April, Ariel is once again reminding consumers and the public that they can make significant savings on energy consumption and bills, simply by turning to 30°C! Research conducted by Ariel and endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust (UK) shows that we can reduce energy simply by doing our laundry at 30°C and washing at cooler temperatures. A 30°C cycle uses five times less energy than a 90°C cycle!

With water and electricity charges at an all-time high both in Malta and globally, Ariel wants to generate more awareness on how to save energy by washing clothes utilising the advances of modern washing machines and the excellent performance of Ariel at low temperatures.

During the month of September, Ariel will be in supermarkets and main stores and Ariel merchandisers will demonstrate the product’s impeccable results in cold water, offering practical advice on cold washing and washing at low temperatures. Until stock lasts, Ariel is giving away a free energy saving bulb with every one 80 scoop packet purchased (or two Ariel liquid of 2.5 litres) in order to drive home the energy saving message. This means consumers will not only save on the wash but will also save e34 on their electricity bill, thanks to the energy-saving bulb. Consumers will additionally save on not having to replace the traditional bulb six times over, since the bulb has a life of 6 years.

By being aware of the benefits of cold washing and taking day to day measures that help save energy, consumers will save energy, save money, and of course contribute to the well-being of the environment we live in. Energy saving technologies, reduction of CO2 emissions and the development of environmentally friendly technologies have been firmly on the agendas of manufactures for a long time now. Often, these products and technologies are already on the market, but not enough awareness exists among consumers on how to use them to their full environmental benefits. Cold washing is a daily habit accessible to all that gives an active contribution to a sustainable environment by reducing energy consumption.

Unfortunately cold washing remains a marginal practice in many countries including Malta. 75% of the energy used by the washing machine goes towards heating the water. Consequently, the washing temperature has an enormous effect on electricity consumption. Not using the appliance to its full efficiency can have a serious impact on the household electricity bill (4% if not used optimally, depending on the machine’s energy class). Against this background, using Ariel makes it possible to significantly reduce the electricity consumption of the washing machine, while ensuring impeccable laundry.

Ariel offers a range of detergents effective at temperatures as low as at 20°C. It gives dazzling whites even in cold water, and satisfies customers’ desire to combine cleaning power with energy saving, while also making a modest contribution to battle climate change.

The formula of Ariel is based on an exclusive combination of ingredients which are effective at low temperatures, thanks to four decades of research and innovation. The surfactants which help to remove fats, dissolve and go into action even when cold. Ariel’s enzymes are effective even on the most difficult stains such as sauces, ice cream and chocolate, and work well at the lowest of temperatures. These enzymes – the detergent technology of the future – derive from biotechnology and are therefore biodegradable and effective in extremely small quantities.

Ariel tablets also contain effervescent micro-beads which enable the tablet to disintegrate in a few seconds even at low temperatures (as close as 0°C!). Ariel is available at supermarkets and main stores. In Malta, Ariel is sold in powder and liquid forms (Ariel Regular, Alpine and Sensitive). Powder is available in following sizes: 10 Scoops, 30 Scoops, 50 Scoops and the new 80 Scoops, while Liquid is available in 1.5L and 2.5L.
