The St Julian’s Band

Malta Independent Friday, 26 September 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

This year was very successful for the St Julian’s Band. The aim of the band undoubtedly is the music and this year under director Mro. Manoel Pirotta we saw something which we had never seen before.

Between 1 June and 31 August the St Julian’s Band had given three musical programmes, which will remain in the memory of many.

Undoubtedly, a concert needs very hard work but with the dedication and the ability of the band director and the musicians of the St Julian’s Band, the final result was perfect and everything went as it was desired.

I’m going to give a brief about these three concerts:

On 1 June for the third consecutive year we attended the annual musical programme which was consisted of popular music. The presentation of that programme was in the hand of Mr Vincent Vassallo.

We heard some famous music pieces like Hello, The Merry Widow, Cox and Box, Les Miserables, Tarantella Festival, Eine Kleine Nachtmusic K. 525, Madama Butterfly, Bells Across The Meadow, Fiddler On The Roof, Tribute, Three Pieces and Goodnight – Till We Meet Again which concluded the musical programme.

Maltese music was included in the programme too.

The second programme was held on 9 August at Xatt is-Sajjieda (sea-coast) where the band was invited to give a musical programme for the occasion of the official opening of a government project by Resources and Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino with the collaboration of the St Julian’s local council.

The band was directed by Mro. Manoel Pirotta while the evening was presented by Joseph Chetcuti.

The third and the last musical programme was held in the eve of the feast of our patron St Julian. The programme included the participation of Tenor Brian Cefai and the St Julian’s Choral Group, while the host was Alex Pace Gouder.

The most beautiful part was when the St Julian’s Band and the Spinola Band played the St Julian’s Hymn while the statue of St Julian was being placed on the column in the square.

I take this opportunity to wish all the best to the St Julian’s Band for the future and hope to keep on witnessing good quality works such as these.
