Camper & Nicholsons Grand Harbour Marina will once again provide luxurious berthing for yachts participating in the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The 606-mile boat race will start at Marsamxett Harbour on Saturday.

Organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the Rolex Middle Sea Race is recognised as one of the great classic offshore races and takes place on one of the most beautiful courses in the world.

2008 is a significant milestone in the history of the race as it marks 40 years since the Swan 36 Josian won the inaugural race.

This year’s fleet is expected to feature two of the very latest and fastest super maxis – Leopard 3 and Speedboat – as well as one of the original maxis and the line honours winner in that first ever race – the once formidable Stormvogel.

Besides the enclosed safe haven for mooring throughout the competition, competitors can enjoy elegant surroundings and five-star facilities at the stunning medieval Grand Harbour Marina.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club will also host a variety of entertainment events for crewmembers culminating in the award ceremony, which takes place at the Yacht Club on Saturday 25 October.

Ben Stuart, general manager for Grand Harbour Marina said: “The Rolex Middle Sea Race is one of the most exciting events in the racing calendar and we are delighted to play host to competitors for a third time. Grand Harbour can comfortably accommodate boats up to 100 metres making it an ideal berthing ground for the diverse size of the racing fleet taking part.

“We are already seeing some of the stunning racing fleet enter Grand Harbour and we encourage people to visit the marina and soak up the atmosphere for themselves.”
