Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 December 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From today, Emirates is operating daily flights to Malta and Cyprus, making the two Mediterranean islands even more attractive to passengers from the UAE and beyond.

Emirates started flying from Dubai to Malta 10 years ago. The airline has put Malta on its vast route network map, connecting the island to key cities in the Middle East, Africa, the Far East, Australia and beyond. Malta was among the earlier European countries served by Emirates and it was the eighth European country and the 41st destination worldwide.

Paul Fleri Soler, Emirates manager for Malta and Cyprus, said: “The daily flight sustains Emirates’ commitment to Malta and Cyprus as it connects the islands to one of the most exciting cities on earth, Dubai. We are significantly improving connections and opening up more possibilities for travellers, the trade and cargo customers to Emirates’ ever-growing network.” In addition, Emirates SkyCargo is handling outgoing and incoming cargo items, including perishable goods, on a daily basis. This will ensure greater flexibility for customers, shorter delivery times, as well as enhanced freshness where temperature-critical goods are concerned.

“At the newly opened Emirates Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, Maltese passengers will find pleasure in exploring the world-class facilities and impressive lounges,” added Mr Fleri Soler. Designed with the capability to handle 43 million passengers a year when fully operational, Emirates Terminal 3 promises travellers the perfect start to an amazing journey.

Emirates EK 107 departs each day from Dubai International Airport at 8.15am and arrives in Larnaca at 10.25am. The flight goes onward to Malta, departing Larnaca at 11.30am and arriving in Malta at 1.20pm.

EK 108 departs on a daily basis from Malta International Airport at 2.50pm and arrives in Larnaca at 6.10pm then onward to Dubai, departing Larnaca at 7.30pm and arriving in Dubai at 40 minutes past midnight the next day.

The multi-award winning international airline of the UAE has been ratcheting up its services in Europe of late. As of yesterday, Nice was upgraded to non-stop, five times a week, while Milan and Rome went daily, non-stop from July. Istanbul has gone from a daily service to 11 flights per week. Meanwhile, from 2 February 2009, Emirates will fly twice daily to Moscow.

The Dubai-based carrier recently started its fourth new route for 2008, Los Angeles. From 15 December, Emirates will bridge the UAE with the city famed for its Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and in doing so doubling its presence on the US west coast in a matter of weeks.

Emirates is the world’s largest A380 customer and operates services to over 60 countries across six continents. It offers convenient connections for Maltese passengers travelling to and from Australia or the Far East. For flight information and bookings visit www.emirates.com.mt
