Usain Bolt is thinking about an attempt on Michael Johnson’s nine-year-old 400-metre world record.
The Jamaican sprinter cruised to victory in the 100 and 200 at this year’s Olympics, setting world records in both, and now thinks he could have it in him to do the same in the longer distance.
Bolt already took one of Johnson’s records to win the 200 in Beijing, but the 400 looks a tougher proposition.
Johnson beat the old 400-meter mark by 0.11 seconds to win in 43.18 at the 1999 world championships in Seville, Spain.
“Everyone wants to do it,” Bolt said in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation. “There are no major championships in 2010 so I could go for the 400-metre record that year.
“The training for 400 metres is so much harder but I’m thinking about it.”
