Youngster Sophie St John won two more gold medals for Malta in this year’s Games of the Small States of Europe, as she triumphed in the Women’s Vault and the Women's Balance Beam in gymnastics.
Born in 2010, St John is one of the youngest members of Team Malta in this year’s GSSE which are being hosted in Andorra – and she has added two more gold medals to her personal tally in these games, and Malta’s 8th in total.
Her score of 12.550 on the Vault was enough to securing first place, narrowly beating Rakel Sara Petursdottir from Iceland, who registered a score of 12.525.
Fellow young gymnast Julia Galea placed 6th.
And she did not stop there: later on Wednesday she won the Women's Balance Beam as well with a score of 12.900 - comfortably beating her nearest rival, Valentina Marochi from Luxembourg, who scored12.550.
St John was already part of the five-strong Women’s Team which won gold in the Women’s Team event on Tuesday, and she picked up a silver medal in the Women’s All-Around event as well.
Malta is now just one gold medal short of its target of nine, which would make it the country’s best ever showing at a foreign-hosted GSSE.
