The dreamy cinematic soundscapes of Italian band Port-Royal will make winter somehow more tolerable when they play at Sky Club, Paceville this evening
Formed in Genoa in 2000 by Attilio Buzzone, Port-Royal is considered to be one of Italy’s finest musical exports. The band is signed to UK record label ‘Resonant Records,’ and their two albums proper, 2005’s Flares and 2007’s Afraid To Dance have both received worldwide critical acclaim. Port-Royal is also held in high regard in its home country and has only recently had its music featured in the soundtrack of the film “Fine Pena Mai.’’
Port-Royal’s appeal lies in its warm ambient textures and juxtaposed dark post-rock instrumentals, primary characteristics that place this Italian band in the same field as M83, Boardsof Canada, Mogwai and even Brian Eno.
On stage the band’s electronic soundscapes are magnificently enhanced with stunning visual projections by Sieva Diamantakos. The end result is mesmerising, enough in fact to prompt one music critic to describe it as “totally letting the audience drown sweetly in an ocean of sounds, heady tunes and colours.’’
The Malta concert will be the first stop in a serious of live performances Port-Royal are set to play all over Europe this winter. Local DJ’s Owen Jay and Danjeli will also be playing on the night.
The concert is being organised by HairyAmp, the people behind the Autokat concert a few months ago.
