With more than 100 students, now Master Noel Mercieca, founder of the Ying Yang Club, has two new Black Belts in the club’s ranks. Darren Borg and Kylie Cocker took part in a four-hour exam, under the watchful eye of Kancho Adrian Axisa, founder of the Malta Kickboxing Association (MKBA), to be awarded the long-awaited and trained for Black Belt. The exam was held last month, where 28 more students from the Ying Yang Club joined students from two other Kickboxing clubs, one of them from Gozo, so they would be assessed.
During the exam the students were assessed to be awarded a different coloured Belt which represents the level they reached in the Kickboxing discipline. The time given for the examination depended on the student’s level. It varied from one hour for the Red Belts to a strenuous four-hour exam for those going for the Black Belt. The students that took part in the exam varied from seven years to 40 years old. Kylie Cocker, at 13 years, is now the youngest student that has a Black Belt in MKBA.
The Ying Yang Kickboxing Club belongs to the World Kickboxing Network (WKN), which organises international competitions even at a professional level.
