Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 January 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), the 14th annual shopping, entertainment and cultural extravaganza has been launched and will run till 15 February 2009. In order to make it easier for those Maltese who want to take advantage of this incredible shopping experience, Emirates, the official carrier and key sponsor of DSF, is currently offering special deals starting from a three-night accommodation in a 3-star hotel/apartment with American breakfast.

DSF offers the world’s best brands at the cheapest prices on earth. Since the start of DSF in 1996, shopping has been a mainstay of the festival attracting millions of visitors every year. The increasing spending figures are not surprising because, without import duties, Dubai is home to the largest collection of international consumer durables in the region.

The Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) play a key role in setting the shopping trend in Dubai. Goods such as electronics, garments, and jewellery have long been in demand. During DSF, promotions and discounts make it possible for shoppers to buy branded products at extremely competitive prices.

With one of the highest retail spaces in the region, Dubai boasts of sprawling malls that not only act as busy shopping venues but double as tourist attractions. Every year sees new malls coming up and in this regard, Dubai has already opened to visitors what is the world’s biggest shopping mall – the Dubai Mall.

Every shopper in Dubai is also amply rewarded in DSF. During the festival, daily raffle draws give away prizes worth millions of dollars. Visitors in the previous editions have taken home luxury cars, kilos of gold, and amazing cash prizes. There’s no end to expect what a shopper could win during DSF. Apart from the many opportunities for bargain hunters, DSF also offers endless entertainment for all the family.
