More Employers seek recruitment assistance from ETC

Malta Independent Thursday, 5 February 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A growing number of employers and human resources managers are opting to use the recruitment services of the Employment and Training Corporation which over the past 10 years, had over 86,000 vacancies posted with it, the ETC said yesterday.

The ETC has a large database of people actively looking for a job, and as soon as it is notified of a vacancy, it informs jobseekers who wish to work in that job or sector. The ETC also publishes the vacancy at its Job Centres and on its website, and makes it available on easy-to-use touch-screen computers, which are found in Job Centres as well as at MCAST and the University of Malta. Since ETC is a member in the European Employment Services (EURES), all local vacancies are promoted across Europe. ETC also sends information on current job vacancies, including those published in newspapers, to its customer database daily via email.

A number of local job fairs are organised each year. In these job fairs, companies looking for new employees are invited to set up their own stand to meet those looking for work. The ETC also offers companies the opportunity to hold recruitment drives at its Job Centres, and ETC markets the recruitment drive on the local media and directly with jobseekers. These events, which are usually held at the Valletta Job Centre in St Zachary Street, usually enjoy a good turnout.

Over 33,000 people were placed in employment through ETC’s assistance over the past 10 years, the ETC said. All the services mentioned, including participation in job fairs organised by ETC and the organisation and marketing of recruitment drives at Job Centres are free of charge. All costs are covered by ETC.

Companies which find it difficult to find suitable employees from Malta can extend their search to Europe. This can be done through EURES. EURES advisers at ETC have assisted many local companies to recruit European nationals to work in Malta.

The Employment and Training Corporation invites employers and HR managers to use its services when seeking to recruit Maltese and foreign nationals with their companies.

ETC can be reached at [email protected] or by phone on 2220-1220.
