John “Jack” Crompton – former Manchester United goalkeeper and international song-writer Ralph Siegel were the guests of honour at Bay Street last week, when they were honoured by having their palm-print immortalised on Celebrity Street.
John “Jack” Crompton (born 18 December 1921 in Chorlton, Manchester) was a goalkeeper for Manchester United between 1944 and 1956. He was in the united team that won the 1948 FA Cup. Crompton retired in 1956, but remained as goalkeeping coach for many years afterwards and, in May 1981, was interim manager between the dismissal of Dave Sexton and the appointment of Ron Atkinson. Now aged 87, he is one of the oldest surviving former Manchester United players, and one of the last of surviving remembers of United’s successful late 1940s/early 1950s side. Jack currently resides in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
German-born song-writer, Ralph Siegel was another international personality to leave his mark in Celebrity Street this week.
Ralph Siegel, a house-hold name in Germany, has released around 2000 songs in his career. He has sold more then 30 Million CD s from Iceland to Israel and from Russia to Spain. He has worked with the Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Chet Atkins, John D. Loudermilk as well as big international names such as Petula Clark, Engelbert, Mireille Mathieu, Al Bano, Silver Convention, Patrick Duffy (Dallas) Vicky Leandros, Ruth Mc Cartney (stepsister of Paul), Les Humphries Singers, as well as a number of big-name German singers for the last 40 years.
Ralph Sieger has also produced and composed the most entries in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest and has also written songs for a number of Maltese singers, including Eleanor Cassar: He; Aldo Busuttil: Addio Ciao; Manuel: The angles are tiered and Ali & Lis: It’s a wonderful life / Don’t stop the party.
